redeeming christmas music
if, like me, you have never really liked christmas music, there is someone who can address your problem. in the middle of his grand quest to record a tribute album to each of the fifty states, the prolific sufjan stevens paused for just enough time to render, not 1 or 2, but 3 christmas albums. they are a collection of hauntingly beautiful renditions of old and new songs for such a season as this and are available here, as "free goodwill toward men and beasts."- (thanks chuck).

thanks for this link. I enjoyed the music. I must admit I am a lover of Christmas music so it doesn't take much for me! ;0) But I did think his renditions did add the element of creativity that is rarely found in sappy holiday music.

Thanks Phil,
I love Christmas music, but it seems like everyone (all of the pop stars that I despise) make Christmas CDs so that they can cash in on the holiday. It truly is redeeming to get to have some great Christmas music that is distributed for free.

nice find, fatty. (well done chuck). it's a nice change of pace from the celine dion christmas cd that has been playing in our house... ahem... i'm loving sufjan's raw approach to these songs....
yet, somehow Raffi's Christmas album is still unparalelled... (those of you who have kids should understand... or is Raffi just a Canadian "celebrity"?)
you can buy his christmas album, combined with his Baby Beluga album on Amazon.com for only $27.98!! don't all jump at once...
thanks phil this is a good addition to my squirrel nut zippers, elvis and phil spectre christmas albums. I think later today I will buy the SmashMouth Christmas album.
I haven't listened yet, but I to am bored from Christmas music. I am glad to hear from somebody who feels the same way. There are a few songs that I love but mostly because they have replaced the feelings that childhood Christmas memories used to give me.
ditto to all said. I enjoy some christmas music but cringe when I hear the same catchy, idiotic songs reverberate in my skull after hearing them on equally obnoxious and idiotic commercial radio stations at work day after day.
