I like this proverb but I wonder:
who are "the people"?

no clue who "the people" were in the original context. in the context of missional ecclesiology- it's a radically different approach to the standard mode of imposing a theological system upon a people with little regard for them or their culture. that's how the author of the text is using the quote- in a missional sense.
how did you hear it?
