see the blaze

I drive by this image 4 times a week, it marks me more each time I do. Yesterday I heard Firestarter by Tess Gallagher, a local poet. My younger son cried last night, I was frustrated until I noticed how small he looked in that big crib of his. Are we pesky at best until someone sees us with different eyes? "There's a blaze of light in every word, it does not matter which you heard- the broken or the holy..."

phil,
thank you for posting this. where is that image? i am again reminded of the profound need to pay attention, slow down and see the holiness amidst the brokenness. it seems the two are in a profound dance. this post makes work different for me today. thank you.

thanks for sitting with it. i'm writing a paper on heidegger right now and he wrote about the "event" in the sense of birth- but that in the sense of re-presentation. seeing anew. like the song bazan is covering- written by leonard cohen, popularized by jeff buckly but rendered anew by bazan in such a way that i heard the lyrics for the first time and have been blown away. i so so so so so need to slow down- enough to re-learn how to feel, think, see, touch, cry, laugh, remember. life is to short to live at the pace we and our culture are committed to. in wanting more we end up with so much less. i'm so addicted to speed.
ok, i'm going to get off the internet because my connection is too slow...

Phil. In wandering the blogworld, I thankfully came to "see the blaze." Sigh. How strange and wonderful to benefit from your wanderings, which are very much mine as well these days. Countercultural has been on my mind, and most recently regarding time and the longings for spiritual kickstarts. Thanks for this one. That's funny I just used "kickstart" because I have a funny memory of watching you miraculously starting your car up in Bothell. That was the first time I'd seen the trick, and have since started my motorcycle that same way! Ah, the connections.
